Are you frustrated at times that your memory fails and
you forget something important? Have you ever been
reminded of something you should have done? Is there
a person that actually can remember everything? Have
you ever made a promise and were later reminded by
someone about your promise?
The Psalmist plead with God to remember His promise
to him. He was relying on God's ability to recall what
had been promised. He not only was relying on God's
ability to recall, but His ability to keep and to act on
His word. A covenant is a pact or agreement that states
what the two parties in an agreement will do. Jehová
El Berith is the God of the covenant.
There is one promise that God gave to us that many of
us forget. In the Genesis account, after the flood, God
sent a rainbow as a promise. His promise stated that He
would never destroy the earth with a flood again. It was
His way to remind us that not only does He remember
all that He has promised, but He keeps His promises to
us. Peter tells us God makes promises to teach us His
ways. "In this way He has given us the very great and
precious gifts He promised, so that by means of these
gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is
in the world, and may come to share the divine nature"
(2 Pet 1:4). By His promises we can live right.
Peter also tells us that during the flood, "The few people
in the boateight in allwere saved by the water, which was
a symbol pointing to baptism, which now saves you. It is not
the washing off of bodily dirt, but the promise made to God
from a good conscience. It saves you through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ (1 Pet 3:21). Our promise made to God is part
of our salvation.
Let us remember who is the God that remembers all things.
God's name is Jehová El Berith. He is the God that makes
promises to His people, and does not forget. He does not
have the frailty of our human frame, and He is mindful
that we are but dust. Lift your hands to Him and Praise
Him today for the fact that He is the unforgetful God that
remembers His promises to us! Make your promises to Him
today and see the difference!
