Is thunder and lightning simply a natural phenomenon
or is it an evidence and example of something else?
Do the storms come and go quickly simply because of
natural climate systems or are they controlled? What
help do you know that is available in a storm?
The Psalmist believed that thunder and lightning in a
storm were evidence and examples of God's power and
His voice. He thought it was an exhibition of God's
power in the storm but not the only method He uses--
"The voice of the Lord is powerful; The voice of the
Lord is full of majesty" (Psa 29:4). If just one of
His thunderbolts can break a strong tree, how can a
man believe that he can resist God. Normally men are
fearful of these effects and rightly so, but examples
of His power should remind us of His mighty power and
our own weakness. Fortunately the effects of the Word
of God are more powerful on the hearts and minds of
men than the displays of power by God in nature.
The Psalmist observed that power of His voice to halt
anything that He purposes. If He purposes for anything
to come to pass, then no power can prevent His purpose-
"For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it
stood fast" (Psa 33:9). All is fulfilled in His Word
and His counsel is never undone. His power is always
sufficient for us in any situation that we face when
our goal is to love and please Him.
Luke tells us that Jesus spoke with just a few words
to the storm and it was stilled. His disciples thought
that they would be killed. Even though they had gone
to sea with Christ, they still needed preparation for
the storm. He reminded them of their need for faith-
"Where is your faith?" And they were fearful and
amazed, saying to one another, "Who then is this,
that He commands even the winds and the water, and
they obey Him?" (Luke 8:25). Those that are under a
sense of guilt and fear of wrath or doom may go to
Christ for help, for He hears the prayer of faith!
Let us remember Who has the holier and righteous way.
Let us remember who is all powerful and all sufficient.
God's Name is Jehová El Shaddai. He is the God who does
not give us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and
a sound mind. His power can give us all we need to live a
righteous life. Lift your hands to the most powerful God
of all the universe. You can Trust Him Today for strength
and power in your life!
