How important is it that truth is revealed and error is
exposed in our society? Who suffers the most when error
is not exposed and the truth is not revealed? Should one
make a defense for the truth and expose error when it is
discovered?
John tells us that Jesus prayed to God the Father that
His disciples and all believers would not be deceived
by the present darkness of this age: "Sanctify them
by Your truth. Your word is truth. And for their sakes
I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified
by the truth" (Joh 17:17,19). The priority that
Jesus placed on exposing error and revealing truth
was evident in His prayer life and daily actions.
The writer of the Hebrews tells us that Jesus was set
apart in His suffering to bear the penalty of sin by
mankind, so that He might set us apart to avoid the
spiritual death penalty and live to His righteousness:
"Jesus died that He might sanctify the people with His
own blood and suffered outside the city" (Heb 13:12).
Just as in Old Testament times when a sacrifice was
made and the blood of that sacrifice was put on the
scapegoat and sent outside the city; so was Jesus
the scapegoat for humanity outside the city.
Peter reminds us that because such a sacrificial act
has been made for our transgressions, be certain to
set apart a first place of priority of life -your God-
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always
be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a
reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and
fear" (1Pet 3:15). Many will assail the truths of God
to be untrue and unjust, however those that have been
enlightened will gladly give a reason for hope in Jesus.
Let us remember who is the God that sanctifies us as a
holy people. God's name is Jehová Mekaddesh, He is the
Lord that sets His people apart. He completely cleanses
us from all unrighteousness. He completely liberates us
from the power of sin. He completely fills us with His
Holy Spirit. Lift your hands to Him and Praise Him today
for His mercy and purpose and will to sanctify us!
