Will God fulfill His promise of victory and defense of His
people? What is the nature of the extended aid that God
gives by His presence? Should a believer pray often with
more fervor when he knows that God will protect him?
Zechariah prophesied about the promise of God to defend His
people. His people are more valuable than precious stones-
"The Lord their God will save them in that day, As the
flock of His people. For they will be like the jewels
of a crown, Lifted like a banner over His land"--
(Zec 9:16). He will display His people as proof to the
nations that He is a God of mercy that defends His people
from evil and delivers them from the oppression of sin.
Isaiah tells us that many nations will recognize truth
when it is displayed because of a change to righteousness-
"And nations will come to your light, And kings to the
brightness of your rising" (Isa 60:3). When God lifts a
person or nation from the depths of sin to a high place
of victory, people take notice and want to see what the
difference is all about! God's people will shine out
as a beacon of light and truth for the world to see!
Many times the Psalmist was discouraged from praying by
the circumstances around him that were overwhelming, but
as he considered and remembered God's banner, he hoped--
"You have given a Banner to those who fear You, That it
may be displayed because of the truth" Selah (Psa 60:4).
He began to pray frequently with great fervor. The banner
of God's presence strengthened him.
Let us remember who is the God that is our Banner. God's
Name is Jehová Nissi. He is the God whose Banner over
us is His love. He raises up His Standard of Righteousness
for us when the enemy comes in like a flood. He makes
that Standard of Righteousness a higher calling in your life.
Lift your hands to Him and Praise Him today for the fact
that He is the God who is our Banner and is ready to
accept our mental choice, our soul-life changes, and our
life's strengths and concentrations to love Him!
