Remember Our Fallen Sons Who Died For Our Country's Freedom!
Have A Blessed Memorial Day!
May 31, 1999, Monday
Is it a good trait to be zealous to defend the honor and
freedom of your country? Does it require bravery and guts
to risk your life to defend your country? Is there reward
and honor due to the person that died in the line of duty
so that others may live?
The Scripture tells that David was a shepherd that learned
to be a great warrior by trusting in God's mighty power.
When King Saul and Israel were being humiliated by Goliath
the Philistine, David told King Saul his qualifications--
"Your servant used to keep his father's sheep, and when a
lion or any bear came and took a lamb out of the flock"
(1Sam 17:34). David explained to Saul that as a shepherd
he would guide the sheep away from danger and that it was
his job to lead them to safety. David's qualification was
that he was zealous for the honor of God and Israel. He
did not see this danger as being any different than any
other danger that he faced before!
David continued to explain that his job was also to guard
the lives of the sheep by defending them against those
ravenous beasts that would devour them. He testified of
the mighty power of God that was with him that enabled him-
"I went out after it and struck it, and delivered the lamb
from its mouth; and when it arose against me, I caught it
by its beard, and struck and killed it" (1Sam 17:35). It
was his trust and faith in God that made him brave to
risk his life and be faithful for what was entrusted to him.
King Saul consented to permit David to battle Goliath and
David accepted the task. David relied on his tested means-
"Then David put his hand in his bag and took out a stone;
and he slung it and struck the Philistine in his forehead,
so that the stone sank into his forehead, and he fell on
his face to the earth" (1Sam 17:49). The God that was a
guide to David and guarded his life faithfully, now was
going to make David's gain. There was a reward in store!
There will be great reward for those who risk their life
for the cause of right. Let us remember today those that
have fallen for the cause of freedom and right in our own
country and land today. May the Good Shepherd who is the
Guardian of their souls prosper and give them great gain!
Let us remember who is the God that is our Shepherd. God's
Name is Jehová Rohi. He is the God that is our Guide. He
Provides direction and a way for us. He is our Guard. He
Protects us from harm and keeps us safe under the shelter
of His wings. Jehová Rohi teaches us that godliness is great
Gain. He Profits us by withholding no good thing to those
that walk in His righteous paths. Lift your hands to Him and
Praise Him today for the fact that He is the God that leads
and shepherds us according to the integrity of His heart!
