What purpose does Jesus have to heal those that are sick?
Are truth and peace agents to the healing process? What
other agents contribute to the healing process?
Jesus verified on many occasions that His purpose and reason
for doing certain things was that prophecy would be fulfilled-
"That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the
prophet, saying: "He Himself took our infirmities And bore
our sicknesses" (Mat 8:17). The fruit or consequence of our
sin is sickness and death. That sin and its consequence He
took on Himself on the cross. Jesus reminded His audience of
God's purpose often to fulfill His Word.
Jeremiah prophesied of what God would do for Israel as He
promised, but with a purpose to encourage them to pray---
"Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will
heal them; and I will reveal to them an abundance of peace
and truth" (Jer 33:6). Healing does bring a knowledge of
the truth and peace to the soul!
Isaiah preached of the benefit of true repentance and doing
works of mercy and faith. Those works bring great blessing-
"Then your light will break out like the dawn, And you will
recover speedily; And your righteousness will go before you,
and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard (Isa 58:8).
In the same way sin and sorrow can dry the bones and weaken
a strong human constitution; the works of mercy, kindness,
and faith will strengthen and refresh the body and soul.
Let us remember Who is the God that is our Healer. God's
Name is Jehová Rophe. He is the God that is our Healer.
He binds up our wounds and heals all of our infirmities. To
the brokenhearted, He comforts the soul. To the person who
is down, the Sun of Rightousness Rises with healing in His
wings. Lift your hands to Him and Praise Him today for
the fact that He is the God that heals us of the spiritual
infirmities that trouble us!
