Does a person that has been given a bad report from the
medical professional normally begin to praise God? Does
the person plead with God for help and healing or accept
the disheartening news in a stoic manner? Do people with
a strong and sincere faith in God believe that God will be
able to heal them or choose to heal them?
The prophet Jeremiah was in sickness and disillusion of the
circumstances that faced him. He appealed to God concerning
the work that God had called him and asked God humbly that
He would heal him. Whatever he found in his life and heart
and conscience of sin or disease, he applied to the Lord--
Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed; Save me and I will
be saved, For You are my praise" (Jer 17:14). To God that
He praised for past favors, He then looked to God for times
of future that He would heal the worst diseases of his nature!
The secret of healing came from praise to His Name. The hands
of God bind up the troubled conscience that brings healing!
The Scripture tells us that God allows events in our lives
so that we will search for Him. If a person will not humble
himself before God in dependence upon Him, problems persist-
"And in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, King Asa became
diseased in his feet. His disease was severe, yet even in
his disease he did not seek the Lord, but the physicians"
(2Chr 16:12). Certainly making use of physicians was a duty
of the king, but trusting them and expecting to be healed
by them was his sin. In all of our conflicts and sufferings
our need is to look internally to our hearts and minds to be
perfect towards the Lord in faith, patience, and obedience.
The Psalmist was strengthened in his faith in God because he
had been healed by God before. The sickness brought a time of
reflection of the faithfulness of God to restore His children-
"As for me, I said, "O Lord, be gracious to me; Heal my soul,
for I have sinned against You". The plea for God's grace is
always the place to start for restoration by God. A personal
time of repentance brings a healing of our spiritual illness-
"The Lord will sustain him upon his sickbed; In his illness,
You do restore him to health" (Psa 41:3-4). The Lord starts
healing from the soul inside to the body outside.
Let us remember Who is the God that is our Healer. God's
Name is Jehová Rophe. He is the God that is our Healer.
He binds up our wounds and heals ALL of our infirmities. To
the brokenhearted, He comforts the soul. To the person who
is down, the Sun of Rightousness Rises with healing in His
wings. Lift your hands to Him and Praise Him today for
the fact that He is the God that heals us of the spiritual
infirmities that trouble us!
