Does the Scripture tell us about leaders with high moral
standards that were able to conquer evil with good? What
is the secret for leaders to have success and victory in
battle?
The Scripture tells us that Joseph had quite a reputation
as a man of sterling character. Joseph was regarded highly
by the Pharoah because of his God sent wisdom and insight-
"We will never find a better man than Joseph, a man who
has God's spirit in him" (Gen 41:38). The Pharoah was so
impressed with Joseph and his ability that he advanced
the position of Joseph to permit him to rule the land
as governor of Egypt. Joseph had permitted the Lord God
to rule and be the Captain of his life. After spending
time in prison humiliated by false charges against him,
his Lord exalted him to be captain of many. Joseph knew
that the Lord had helped him conquer evil with good.
Just as Joseph was resolute in faithfulness to the Lord
for God to maintain his honor, Joshua was a man that knew
also he could never turn back in his battle against the
forces of evil. And because Joshua knew the importance
of God's help, he spent time alone with God before battle-
"The soldiers were arranged for battle with the main camp
north of the city and the rest of the men to the west.
But Joshua spent the night in the valley" (Joshua 8:13).
Joshua probably was gripped by fear for any loss of the
battle whatsoever and pleaded with God for victory. God
was faithful to give Israel victory over Ai. Joshua did
not turn back against Ai, even though previously defeated
by Ai for sin in the camp of Israel.
Let us remember the God that is our Captain. God's name
is Jehová Sabaoth. He is the God who is the Captain and
Lord of The Hosts of Heaven. He is the Mighty Conqueror
over all of His enemies. He is mighty in battle and able to
lead His Host to victory. Lift your hands to Him and Praise
Him today for the fact that He is the God who is our Captain
that leads us to our victory! He teaches us to overcome!
