Do you remember any of the great military leaders that made
great conquests? Alexander the Great conquered the known
world at age 33 and died soon after. Napoleon was known for
his military prowess. Hitler was obsessed with conquering
the world but went mad in the process.
Jesus asks the question: "Will you gain anything if you win
the whole world but lose your life? Of course not! There is
nothing you can give to regain your life" (Mat 16:26). Or in
another way: "What gain is it if you are lost or defeated?"
If you can overcome every obstacle in this world, but lose
the most valuable possession that you have, you have missed
God's purpose for you, that is you would not be lost.
To achieve and do better than those that have done before us
is wonderful. Everyone likes to win. Young boys dream of
breaking records and hitting more homeruns than the previous
stars. Is it that God does not want us to do those things?
Jesus tells us: "I am telling you the truth: those who
believe in Me will do what I do—yes, they will do even greater
things, because I am going to the Father" (John 14:12). Jesus
wants us to keep things in perspective of what is of real value.
When it comes to things of real value; like your life or your
soul, what could detour you from reaching your goal? Paul tells
us if following Christ is your goal: "Not trouble, hardship,
persecution, tribulation, hunger, poverty, danger or death". To
the contrary he says: "No, in all these things we have complete
victory through Him who loved us!"(Rom 8:37).
Let us remember the God that is our Captain. God's name
is Jehová Sabaoth. He is the God who is the Captain and
Lord of The Hosts of Heaven. He is the Mighty Conqueror
over all of His enemies. He is mighty in battle and able to
lead His Host to victory. Lift your hands to Him and Praise
Him today for the fact that He is the God who is our Captain
that leads us to our victory!
