Would you expect "control" to be a good thing or a
bad thing? Would you expect that the "good" will win
out or will it be the "bad"? Who would you expect to
usually make the biggest boast about the outcome of
such a contest?
Moses tells us that sin's desire is to control a person
as with Cain---"If you had done the right thing, you
would be smiling; but because you have done evil, sin
is crouching at your door. It wants to rule you, but you
must overcome it" (Gen 4:7). God does not expect
us to do something that is impossible. However it is
impossible to overcome sin without His help.
Malachi declares that those that follow Satan will be
overcome by the righteous--"On the day when I act,
you will overcome the wicked, and they will be like
dust under your feet" (Mal 4:3). It is God, the Lord
of Hosts, that will act on behalf of the righteous to
to help them and overcome enemies.
God asks a simple question in response to the boasts
of the wicked---"But what do I see?" asks the Lord.
"They are turning back in terror. Their soldiers are
beaten back; overcome with fear, they run as fast as
they can and do not look back" (Jer 46:5). God prefers
for one to overcome evil and fear, rather than for one
to be overcome by his own devices.
Let us remember the God that is our Captain. God's name
is Jehová Sabaoth. He is the God who is the Captain and
Lord of The Hosts of Heaven. He is the Mighty Conqueror
over all of His enemies. He is mighty in battle and able to
lead His Host to victory. Lift your hands to Him and Praise
Him today for the fact that He is the God who is our Captain
that leads us to our victory!
