Are those that follow Buddha and worhsip his statue in
error? Does a statue have any supernatural power to do
miracles or is there any record in history of statues with
power? Does the statue of stone have power to give
victory over one's enemies?
The Lord tells us through Isaiah that He alone is a
God of miracles and that any other worship is wrong--
"I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness, And
will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as
a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles,
To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the
prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
I am the Lord, that is My Name; And My glory I will not
give to another, Nor My praise to idols or images.
The Scripture tells us that the Philistines captured the
Ark of Israel to put it in their temple of Dagon and came
to discover their Dagon god statue fallen and broken--
"And when they arose early the next morning, there was
Dagon, fallen on its face to the ground before the Ark
of the Lord. The head of Dagon and both the palms of
its hands were broken off on the threshold; only Dagon's
torso was left of it" (1Sam 5:4). The Scripture tells us
there are dark forces that have power to operate in our
world, but our God can manage them easily.
The Scripture tells us that Israel's first king died
for his unfaithfulness. Saul was mortified because he
consulted a medium and his head was put in a temple of
a foreign god named Dagon--"And they stripped him and
took his head and his armor, and sent word throughout
the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the
temple of their idols and among the people. Then they
put his armor in the temple of their gods, and fastened
his head in the temple of Dagon" (1Chr 10:9-10). The
enemies of God rejoiced as they did when Samson had
been captured--"Now the lords of the Philistines gathered
together to offer a great sacrifice to Dagon their god,
and to rejoice. And they said: "Our god has delivered
into our hands Samson our enemy!" (Judg 16:23). Samson
and Saul gave themselves to temptation and lost their
lives, not because of a statue with supernatural power.
Jesus was mortified to take that power of sin away from
us that we would be able to overcome it.
Let us remember who is the God that makes all things
possible. Yahweh is the God Jehová, there is no other
god like Him. Jehová is the Lord of miracles. He alone
has the power to manage our life. He alone was
mortified by a death that had no power. He used
His power to overcome sin and death for us. Lift your
hands to Him and Praise Him today for the power and
purpose of His miracles today!
